From the 10/26 Show – Eleven Minutes and a Pill to Solve It

In the early part of the show was a parody on You Tube that is a commercial for “Pretendatrin”, a drug for “Mild Discomfort Disorder”. The conversation led into discussing the DSM-IV manual which lists over 350 psychological diagnosis’s. While the show recognizes serious symptoms of paranoia, schizophrenia and many life altering psychological challenges, we had some fun with the diagnosis of “mathematics disorder”, “reading disorder”, “relationalship disorder”, etc. It becomes a sad commentary on our medical system that every psychological problem has been described and the remedy is an eleven minute office visit and a prescription drug, regardless of the diagnosis.
The show is moving into asking about the drug culture in America. Anyone with a prescription pad can both “diagnosis” the symptoms of a psychological situation (the cause of the problem is immaterial) and within a few minutes write for a mind altering drug. Comments are welcome.
