Sunday’s show started with a You Tube parody called “Spanky the Car Salesman”. I found it to be a hilarious piece of a salesman doing a used car advertisement. It was clear from the piece that every sentence from Spanky was disingenuous. My apology to all the honest car salesman reading this.
There have been a number of recent articles stating that prescription drug deaths outnumber illicit drug deaths (heroin, cocaine, methamphetamine). In sixteen states drug overdose deaths now outnumber the deaths from automobile accidents. The social security disability claims continue to increase in record numbers and the number of people being granted disability benefits continues to increase dramatically. It is safe to state that most of the people granted new disability claims are on the opioid prescription drugs.
We have not only what I call the silent epidemic of drug misuse in our country continuing to increase dramatically, but we have a collective media that has no clue on how to report on it. The media will report on the increasing deaths and in the same article remind us that the drugs are safe if taken as directed (drug company and pain management mantra). With all the mounting destruction from the prescription narcotics who is going to educate the media that if they wouldn’t buy a car from Spanky why are they believing what the drug companies are telling them? How do we educate the reporters and media.
