After the mid-break, I played a sound bite from a 1950’s film that was targeted toward teenagers concerning narcotics. In that 1950’s time frame, marijuana, cocaine and heroin were the main narcotics for discussion. Although marijuana and cocaine are no longer considered narcotics, they were previously defined as ones. Today, narcotics are saved for discussions on opium derivatives (heroin, morphine, oxycodone, hydrocodone, hydromorphone, etc). Dangerous prescription drugs that are synthetic compounds that affect the opioid receptors in our bodies (fentanyl, methadone, etc.) have been added to the discussion.
The point of playing an informational piece from 50 years ago exemplified society’s concern over the addiction and death from narcotics in that time frame. In spite of the history and damage the opioid plant derivatives have created in our society, the FDA continues to allow the approval of additional narcotic drugs to be distributed (prescribed?) by any individual who has a medical license in our country, regardless of what school, medical discipline or motivation the doctor may have for helping to put an endless supply of addictive and dangerous drugs onto our streets.
Who’s family is going to be affected by this wanton and reckless lack of concern by the powers of the FDA. The FDA has lost it’s focus on its original mission to protect our families and for a complete understanding on how the FDA has apparently become corrupt in it’s mission, listen to the show after the 25 minute break point (9:30 PM live show).
