On Tuesday, December 2, a press release via PRWeb was sent to a number of media sources around the country. http://www.prweb.com/releases/2008/12/prweb1687564.htm
The headline is: “Does Dr. Andrew von Eschenbach Know What is Happening at the FDA, Questions The Prescription Addiction Radio Show”. Dr. Andrew von Eschenbach is the present Commissioner of the FDA. In my opinion, the respect and review of REMOXY has gone way too far. The manufacturer of REMOXY hopes to replace OxyContin.
The final decision by the FDA for The New Drug Application REMOXY scheduled for this week will be a defining moment for the FDA. This week will indirectly bring a statement by the FDA on what their present position is with the new “opium epidemic” created since the marketing of OxyContin in late 1995. With REMOXY’s proven erratic absorption, when taken as scheduled, it may have the potential to be more deadly than OxyContin. Food dramatically affects the response from REMOXY. It appears the chewing and alcohol studies were done with individuals having empty stomachs which would have affected the final outcome of the true results for REMOXY. There still remains no published studies on heating the product past 100 degrees (boiling).
Later this week, we will be learning if the FDA is going to start to watch out for the citizens or continue to protect the drug companies and support the dramatic increase of death and addiction being implicated from prescription drugs over the last decade.
