From the 1/4 Show – OxyContin and the Opium Epidemic

During the show I commented on the recent article US RECALL NEWS recently published that I wrote titled “OxyContin and the Opium Epidemic of the 21st Century” http://www.usrecallnews.com/2009/01/oxycontin-and-the-opium-epidemic-of-the-21st-century.html/comment-page-1#comment-3940 . I contend that whether an individual swallows pure opium juice, smokes part of the opium plant, or ingests products made from the opium plant (morphine, oxycodone, hydrocodone, etc.) the outcome of potential addiction or death are similar. In our country, for over 100 years the opium plant derivatives were limited to “the inner cities” in the form of heroin. Today the opium plant in the form of oxycodone (OxyContin) and hydrocodone (Vicodin) has penetrated and caused destruction in every community and town in America.
Along with the media and elected officials, the drug companies have kept the American people misinformed about the history of opium and how it has permeated into our American culture by way of our FDA and prescriptions. The media remains silent from misinformation and the politicians remain silent from campaign contributions. A sad combination and a recipe for disaster as proven by the growing deaths and addictions from the silent epidemic I talk about every week. Pain relief – Yes! Lies – No!
