In the last two minutes of the show I went into a tirade how the media has continued to ignore the BanOxyContin petition http://www.banoxycontin.com in spite of approaching 6000 comments and signatures. Every day brings a comment from the signature page that would create attention on the front page of a newspaper. I remain perplexed how the biggest accidental killer in our country remains silent on the front pages and TV’s in our country. Accidental overdose deaths from drugs and poisonings have surpassed motor vehicle accidents. Motor vehicle deaths are reported regularly, but the death from a drug overdose of a common citizen is not important to media gurus. Reporting on the affects of addiction to a family after a doctor got their loved one hooked is unimaginable for a misinformed media.
Our media has become pawns to the legal drug cartels in this country and been taught to rank the loss of a death. A death from a car is bad and a death from a drug doesn’t deserve comment.
This week (Thursday, April 1) is the first BanOxyContin Rally in the country. Most of the media covering Tampa and some national media have been contacted. But, it occurred to me that it doesn’t matter if they show up. Nice maybe, but doesn’t matter.
The petition continues to grow, Face Book continues to grow, the radio show continues to grow, Purdue was stopped from possibly killing thousands more and awareness continues to grow. This is being done without any media coverage.
The media is welcome to stop in on Thursday at Fletcher and Magnolia. I would be pleased if they come to educate themselves. The reporting is secondary. The common citizen in this country is going to get the job done. My request at this point is for the media to step aside, stop reporting the misrepresentation from the drug and pain organizations and we will continue to take care of the education process they have decided to forego. There is no stopping this movement.
