Last night’s show was very good. I remain appreciative that Steve Hayes, Dr. Steve Gelfand, Ed Vanicky, Pete Jackson and Sandra Kresser helped highlight the damage and destruction OxyContin and the manufacturer Purdue Pharma is doing to every community in America. I do encourage all to listen to last night’s show for a perspective not heard about the growing drug culture in our country. Time was spent bringing awareness to the Sept 24th meeting with the FDA and Purdue’s quest to bring a “new” OxyContin formulation to the world public.
Specifically, I am irked that the drug mavens and purveyors of addictive substances are allowed to make it clear that addiction is a “moral failing”. As long as the manufacturers and distributors continue to promote the mindset that an individual has complete control and it is completely the choice of the individual to partake and continue a downward spiral the dishonest information about addiction will continue. This show maintains that addiction is a disease and the continued use of the legal narcotics when taken as prescribed will lead to the disease of addiction. The drug companies continue to sidestep the discussion on what addiction is and what causes it.
Addiction is a moral failing and no responsibility for the manufacturer and distributor. The legal drug cartels have created a perfect business model.
