The radio show had the good fortune to have Judge Jim Gray www.judgejimgray.com join us for an hour on Sunday night. Judge Gray, from the judicial bench, has witnessed the damage and destruction from our present mindset on approaching “The Drug War” in our country. I encourage all to listen to Sunday’s archived show (4/19/09) if you missed it for the Judge has a compelling argument on why our approach to stopping the violence and incarceration, as it relates to drugs, is not working.
Along with Steve Hayes, Director of Novus Medical Detox, I told the Judge that the argument for the failure of The War on Drugs is an old argument. It is time to expand the dialogue to include the damage and destruction legal drugs are doing along side the illegal drugs. The radio show continues to make the contention that the insatiable appetite for drugs in this country is being fueled by our appetite for prescription drugs. The multi million dollar marketing for the addictive and dangerous prescription drugs is continuing to create major problems as witnessed by the carnage in our neighboring country, Mexico. The stories of a doctor getting someone hooked on OxyContin and then the individual turning to purchasing heroin is much too common. Everyone reading this has either a personal story to tell or that of a family member or acquaintance concerning a prescription drug and statistics are no longer necessary to state the obvious.
My thanks to Judge Jim Gray for joining us Sunday night and I hope Sunday’s show will be the catalyst to helping the special interests involved in more legalization and decriminalization of drugs to expand the dialogue to include legal drugs.
