The year 2008 is leaving with a bang for the Prescription Addiction Radio Show. The Obama Transition Team on Health Care is beginning to receive letters from a newly formed group called “Advocates For Prescription Opioid Drug Reform”. A quote from Dr. Kirk Van Rooyan’s letter ( http://media.novusdetox.com/dependence.php?include=137616 ) begins to state the problem well: “For more than a decade prescription opioids have been aggressively marketed to America’s physicians for treatment of chronic, non-cancer pain of moderate severity. As a result, hydrocodone prescribing increased by 198%, fentanyl by 423%, oxycodone by 588%, and methodone by 933% during this period, and 80% of the world’s prescription opioid supply is now consumed in the U.S”.
I am confident that as the message from this group and the radio show is heard by more people around the country common sense will begin to prevail. Before the drug companies created the name “pain pills”, we called them narcotics. Narcotics (disguised as pain pills) have now permeated every city, town and community in our country. The question can now be asked: has the medical community become morally corrupt and is simply following the money to these drugs or has the medical community become incompetent? Your comments are welcome.
