From the 4/18 Show - Florida Politicians at Their Worst

April 19, 2010 09:43 by larry

The show lamented the corruption and disgust it has for the Republican leadership during the current legislative session.  It appears the proposals to limit pill mill dispensing to 72 hour supplies was defeated last week.  In other words, the pain clinics and every doctor's office can continue to put tens of thousands of narcotics onto our streets in Florida with the growing prospect of more legal drug dealers getting into the drug distribution business.

The radio showed again revealed the phoniness of the present drug monitoring bill set to take effect in December.  The monitoring bill was passed without any state funding last year and as a result a "foundation" was created to raise funds.  The foundation is called the Florida PDMP Foundation.

The Foundation reported an initial contribution from a federal grant of $400,000 which is available to all the states who qualify.  The "honesty" from our Florida government stops there.  Another $20,000 came from an organization that Purdue Pharma, the makers of OxyContin, contributes to.  The next $50,000 came from the Chairman of the Foundation's company.  His company specializes in urine testing equipment.  In other words the Florida PDMP Foundation is headed by an individual who will make a direct profit from the growing proliferation of the pain clinics who's only specialty is narcotic distribution.

The next $25,000 came from the Vice Chairman's company.  That company specializes in PHYSICIAN DISPENSING SYSTEMS!

The old adage of  "kick the bums out" has never rang more true in our state.  However, the drug dealers have such a dramatic hold on our legislative process that the radio show's fear is the "new bums" will be no better until business and industry step forward to confront Florida's most serious problem directly.  The unemployment rate will continue to increase and the quality of the worker will continue to decrease as more people become addicted as a direct result of the almost 1000 registered drug dealers (pain management) in our state.
